Canes

Butterflies

These were made between March and July, 2000
You only make half of the butterfly in a cane. Take two slices of the cane, shape a body with antennae and stick it all together.  To bake, place a folded index card under the butterfly, supporting the wings and body at any angle you like and bake as usual.  If you want to make them into beads, take a small piece of clay, shape it into a tube and attach to the back of the butterfly.

What I learned: Don't be afraid to use color. Strategically placed small logs can brighten it up. Pick an outside color and save some for the body.  This is a great way to use scrap clay and small logs of leftovers.

New in 2004

I made these at a demo given by Karen Hardy at Klew's retreat in May 2004.
