Chrysanthemum Cane

This is the first stage of a pen using three chrysanthemum canes using mostly opaque colors. Here is the pen with a layer of FIMO translucent blue and the first covering of slices.
The second picture is a close-up (duh) to show that I have overlapped some and to show how thick the slices are. I'm still working on cutting paper thin slices. I want this to remind you of grandma's sofa. Comfy and pretty.
This has all three canes on it. For some continuity, I cut up some cane ends and all three canes have some of the same pieces. It's been smoothed once, now I'm looking for spaces that may need to be filled.

This has been smoothed as much as it can be without distorting the slices too much. The arrows show some gaps. I will reduce the larger white and blue canes and fill them in, then smooth again. Rub your fingers lightly over the pen at this point so you can feel any gaps you may not be able to see.

Always roll lightly to avoid distorting the pattern and pushing the clay off the end of the pen. Fill in small gaps with reduced cane slices.
