Hearts for Heroes

I've made a few hundred Hearts for Heroes.

On July 7, 2006, I came up with this nifty holder to use while I'm glazing them. It's the inside of a tool box that I used for years but now this center tray isn't practical. Of course,

I couldn't throw it away. I knew I'd find a use for it some day. The tray is 18" x 12"

The tray is used to hold the hearts while excess glaze drips off.

These will go into little bags with a message from me. The message reads "Always remember somebody cares" with my first name and city, and one of three images; a lit candle, a tree or a butterfly. You are welcome to use this page for your own messages, just change the name/city unless you want to give me credit for making yours.  Just click on "fit to page" when you print it out.

Cane ends are a great source for patterned clay to make your hearts. Make them into mirror image beads, swirl them or do a chop and toss. I use snap swivels from the fishing section of Wal-Mart. Here is the label on the bag

The hearts need to be no bigger than a quarter for good reason. They will go on the chain with the troops' dog tags, and if they are any bigger, they can get in the way. They have plenty of distractions during war without worrying about something big tangling up on that chain.

Thomas found the swivels at Wal-Mart in RED!

These are the hearts in the rack above. They will go to the July meeting of the SDPCG. Click on the images to see larger ones. Larger image is close to actual size. Use your browser's BACK button to return to this page.

Welll...I missed the meeting. Probably worked out for the best, because I made these to add.

Tomorrow is Clay Day, so I'd best hustle!

I took a little liberty with

the desert camo here.

These are made with cane ends

and bits of mixed colors

October 30, 2006

I was given a tub o' scraps and older clay and some scrap from a cane made at Sandy Camp, then I taught a class on the 21st, so I put the  scrap to good use.

Thank you Tina and Kathi!

note: The loaf pan will

be lined with foil before

curing and washed well

before using for food.

New way to cure the hearts. 6"

wooden skewers from an Asian

market, a Corning loaf pan

and some wax paper

Heart, paper, heart, paper

The rest of this batch. Count

between this tray and the one

at left is around 160. I think.

I lost count.

Here is the sheet of little notes that I

include with my hearts. Feel free to

download and use it. Just add your

name (I just use my first name)

and city/state if you like. Click

on the image to get the full-size one.

I just set my printer to "fit to page".
