Poor Purse!

Voting begins 04-11-01
Voting ends 04-16-01

Disaster Strikes!
I left the rock purse on the scanner bed and it got crunched. The larger of the two halves now has two splits that I can see.
It's covered with the ripple cane slices we picked and that is holding it together. The splits don't go all the way through. It's fractured rather than broken.
I will attempt repairs during the last stage before baking. I believe we can save her.

Here's our progress:
Naked
Lined Shell
Cut Open

Where we are: When I cut the shell open, I got one small split on the bottom edge.
I'm going to brush some TLS on it and rebake it.
Hoping the outer clay shell will finish the mend. 04-10-01

  • ADVICE FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY
Kim,
This is a really hard step in the voting.  There are several here that I think you should do.  I would make the beads with the cane, so they match and coordinate with your amulet.  I would also make the attachment of the cord to the amulet with #6 (tabs with the cane).  I would definately also add your signature cane to the bottom or some other place on the amulet....even to the
top of the inside, all depending on the size of the signature cane and how it coordinates with the outside.

Then I would like to see the amulet to decide if you should have
embellishments added.  It is hard to know until you see more of the amulet.

Also I found the picture of the amulet hard to see on the last step....it was too small for my poor eyesight.....lol....

Good luck...it is looking so nice right now.  I love it.  Also, I loved being able to vote and help in the selection process.....fun!!!

Still can't believe you've only been doing this a year!
Jeanne
Enjoy! It is looking good so far!

Janice
What fun!

Hi,

I vote for #4, #5 and #7 for the finished rock purse.   Gotta have that signature cane!!   You are doing a wonderful
job, keep up the good work.

Jan V

I vote for #6. This adds that special elegance to the rest of the gown. Just the right trim for that special ROCK!
Again way to much fun.
Happy claying,
Jeanette
Hi,

I think having the cord tabs coordinate in color is crucial to the final
look. I haven't been happy with mine when they didn't.

Stacia

I'm not sure what you mean by edge when you ask about solid clay or cane or foil. But I'm guessing I'd like the foiled clay... #8
I also vote for #7, the caned signature Also, #4 & #5.

I DIDN'T vote for #3 (texture).... although I ordinarily like texture a LOT,  I think that with the _type_ of cane you're using, it would be too distracting. I don't like texturing on top of mokume for that reason.  Especially with ripple cut pieces... you lose all the little nuances in the the dips & rises of the texture... makes them hard to focus on. And the texture is not real easy to see either, because the background is so varied.
Some times it can be a no win situation. Just my opinion though! If I had never seen what you were going to cover with... I would have voted yes to it  right away.

I enjoyed the vote and can't wait to see the finished purse.  Loads of luck to you.  But somehow I think that your purse will turn out beautiful.  You have guts doing it for the whole community... :o)  I would be scared to death.  LOL!

Let us know when you get done...I'll be there for the unveiling.

Smiles,
Linda

I'm hoping this will turn out well enough to wear like an amulet.
Now will someone please come teach me peyote!?!

Mags is waiting to see what you pick!
