Kato Colored Liquid Clay

Tony Aquino of Van Aken, and formulator of Kato polyclay, has been experimenting with coloring Kato clear medium. He came to the SDPCG (twice!) for a demo and we got to try some of it. As I play with it, I will post images. Here's the first group, from July and August, 2005.

Spider was painted on a piece of glass, cured, then peeled off. It sticks to windows, votives, jars; anything glass or tile.

These coasters made on the lid of a paint can. I used a liner brush to "paint" the faces on. These are scanned, so the depth is lost.

First attempt at a fantasy cabochon. I poured clear, white and red Kato liquid with glitter into a metal paint pallette.

Lettering and bats

were painted with a fine line brush. Not really sure what it is, but it's flexible!

This coaster looks much different in person. Colors are white and light green over amber. Glitter is embedded in it all round.

These 4 cabs started with cane slices. They haven't been trimmed yet, so they look a bit rough.

Eyeballs! Different stages of speriments. 1st think I learned is a little bit of black will do ya. As you add the other colors, the black will spead out. Again, made in the metal pallette.

These have

all been

scanned, so may

look a little funky.

Click here to see pictures of Tony's demo at SDPCG.  This product is not available yet, but if there is enough interest, we may have it in the future. Van Aken will make it, Donna Kato's Prairie Craft and others will sell it. Shall we tell them what we think?

Email Tony for information about Kato products or to request a demo for your guild.
