Mini Skulls
Mound |
|
This piece is about 5" tall
and is made of
polymer clay. It was made
to go into
my Halloween Village but
may become
a free-standing piece on
its own.

I made
about 2 dozen skulls from a mold using assorted skullish
color mixes. With the leftovers, I made about the same
number of bones. |
 |
The
mold, a bit larger than actually size. |
 |
A wire
spool covered with foil was the armature. Brown clay was
molded around this before skulls were added. |
 |
Partway
through adding skulls. Trying out placement of bones. |
 |
Another
angle. |
 |
Nearly
done with skulls, view from the top. (duh) As I go, I'm
poking holes through the skull eye sockets with a needle
tool so light can shine through. |
 |
The
mound is all covered and bones are added. About to go
into the oven. Here is where I find out how well I've
mixed the bone colors. |
 |
All
cured. The eye holes weren't as big as needed for lights
to shine through so they're being reamed by hand with a
drill bit. This is a test with a set of red Ikea lights. |
