Skulls

Maybe I'm being optimistic with

"Skulls" in stead of "Skull", but I'm

hoping the first little one leads

to more of all sizes.

First attempt at a freeform skull. A wad of crumpled newspaper was taped to a 14" square tile. The pulp was smeared over it in a kind of lightbulb shape. Then I had no clue what to do next so I brought up a pic of a skull on the monitor and worked from there. I really like using a manicure stick to shape the pulp. It's kinda pitiful looking, but I'm okay with it as a first attempt.

Where he ended up. Or is this one of his brothers? Either way, you get an idea of scale. This headstone is about 14" square.

The first one was made over a foam skull and put on this sign. Story is here

Speriments with adding coffee and plaster to the pulp.

Tallest one is about 2". Coffee gives a cool patina, not sure how long before that fades, if it does. Plaster makes it look bleached out and adds weight and stability.

This one was made over a standard light bulb. A red LED is being set up to go behind it so it will shine out through the eyes.

Horned skull is about 4 1/3" long.

All toilet paper pulp. Sculpts very easily. This has dried for about 8 hours so far and is still pretty fragile but I can see how it's shrinking and I like it so far. Strange that I was trying this to see how smooth the TP can be and make something that I want to be a little rough, but that's me all over.
