beadyeyedbrat Pirate Cove

Gator Board given to us by friend Randy. Thanks friend Randy!

Never used it before, so let's hope we use the right materials.

Board has basic outline of the cove drawn on it in yellow colored pencil. Many changes will likely be made before the final cove is finished. We don't have the Galleon yet, but this box is within a few inches of its size. It occurs to me that I have the rocks and sand backwards.

The dock. Original thought was to make it big and square like what we've seen for sale. Considering the size of the finished cove, it's been scaled down to an "L" shape. All polymer clay and cyanoacrylate glue.

Checking the fit of the dock. Pilons have been attached and methinks about the right height.Looks like it's going to be moved a bit more into the "water"  so maybe there will be less of an edge on the other side.

Sand area has gotten a coat of gesso.

Water area has a coat of gesso/acrylic paint. I'd hoped to coat this area with clear resin but the cost is pretty high. To do this the way I'd like, with all the pieces from Lemax, it would cost more than I can spend, so anyway I can save money helps. Maybe I can get away with several coats of gloss urethane.

This is all totally new to me, so wish me luck.

Glue has been brushed over the gesso and sand is poured over. When this dries, I'll brush off the excess sand and go on to the next patch. It's just plain old sand from the home improvement center that I'd used for planting.

Size (and wallet) check. Sections of newspapers cut to close to the size of the pieces I want to add. 1. Haunted Galleon ($60) 2. Dead Man's  Point ($40) 3. Isle of Doom Lighthouse ($75)* That doesn't include several figures, a couple of row boats, lighting and landscape. The lighthouse would go on top a fairly tall hill built into the corner. The point would be built into a small hillside surrounding it. I may be able to do it all if I can find better prices on everything.
