One cut side done.

All three pieces with clay on the cuts.

Now wrap with same color you used for the veins...IMPORTANT.... start this at the center cut....

Take a very skinny piece of another color and lay it on the seam line..should be exactly

on the middle vein line...this is called a registration line. and is very important for reducing and shaping.

Reduce the same way you did for the lace cane.

Smooshing close to one edge with fingers and thumbs.

This is the other end.

Now use your fist to squeeze all the way from one end to the other and back...do this as evenly as you can. take your time....make it the same size as the ends.

Keep that registration line straight.

See the line.....now the cane is soft enough to do a bit of pulling and stretching. this is done with both hands around the cane and just a little bit at a time. very gently, keep that line straight.

Very gently roll on work surface...do not twist...keep straight line.

You want this 14" long

after the ends are cut off.

Woo woo..you now have a petal...needs a bit of shaping now.

First..take that lace cane and reduce it to the same size around as petal cane.

this size....

Oops..i forgot to tell you to cut the petal cane into 7....2" long pieces.

Awwwwwwww. see how cute...actually I have 16" here so will do 8 petals.

Shape each petal just a bit...along the registration line..dont make them real pointy...

Take translucent and make enough thin snake for each cane to have one. this can be done in an extruder.

Wrap the cane in trans. leaving a bit of an overhang on each end...

Wrapped cane.

Now take a thin knitting needle or piece of metal and make indentations in the cane at the join of each petal.

This is what it will look

like at this point.

Skinny trans snakes.

Put snakes in the indentations of each petal.

Gently squeeze the whole cane to get air pockets out..try not to distort this cane.

You should be getting better at reducing by now....

reduce reduce reduce

Squeeze that baby...gently.

Then roll on work surface til it is smooth..at this point you will see faint color lines in the cane. keep them straight....

How far you reduce is up to you....this is pretty long.

Ok ok..you dont have to reduce it all the way yet..cut into that baby to see what it looks like.

Here is the flower reduced to two sizes which is a good idea depending on how you want to use it.
