Diagonal cut.

Put clay on that piece too.

Then put it together so it looks just like this. veins all in the same direction. going up.

Wrap with #4 sheet of clay. I leave a bit of an overlap here. this has got to be done exactly this way...look at the picture.. important.

Seam side of the cane..pay attention closely to the next pictures.

Take a very very thin skinny piece of clay.

Combine so it looks like this. one in the center. 6 around the center one

Lay it on the seam line...make sure seam is where it belongs... IMPORTANT

Picture of "registration" line at pointy side of leaf....you must do this if you want to reduce it and shape it straight.

Start reducing. I squeeze all the way around over and over til it looks like this. then I do the same on the other end.

This is what the ends will look like..nasty...lol

This is what the cane should look like now.

Take your whole hand and squeeze..gently. go around and around and around til it is about the same size around as the top edges are. Are we getting excited now to see what it will look like?

Now gently roll it on your work surface so it is smooth. Keep line even..then...cut off the ends...whooppee. should look like this now.

Pinch along the registration line..to make leaf shape.

Keep that line straight...

Completed leaf cane.

Now lets make it smaller...I generally use 1/4" diameter canes but this is preference. so start reducing again.

Woo woo..two canes diff. sizes..good luck...
